Aldi customer praises 'angel by the till' after suffering medical emergency

An Aldi customer has praised a member of staff at the supermarket chain after he had a medical emergency while in his local branch. Robert Clayton, 39, collapsed and began to have a seizure while doing his shopping.

Robert had just started doing his shopping when his seizure began. But a quick-thinking member of staff rushed to help him.

The woman, who Robert said had blonde curly hair, began moving objects out of his way to make sure he didn't hurt himself. He described the member of staff as his "angel by the till", who spoke to him throughout the seizure and called an ambulance.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, Robert said: "She was amazing. I was diagnosed with epilepsy a few months ago after a head injury and I was worried about it [seizures] happening while I was out and about because people could take advantage of me or rob me.

"This lady came over and called an ambulance for me straight away. She moved all the objects out the way so I wouldn't hurt myself, closed the aisle to protect my privacy and spoke to me the whole way through.

"She told me I wasn't alone, everything was going to be okay, she wasn't going to let me hurt myself and she was stroking my head. She kept telling me the ambulance was on the way."

Robert was taken to hospital, where doctors checked him over. He added that he was impressed that the worker checked his medical bracelet and called his emergency contacts from his phone.

He said: "The staff were amazing as you can imagine this is very traumatic and embarrassing for me. I'm going to go back into the shop and get the lady some nice flowers because she was incredible.

"I got in touch with Aldi and said if they do an employee of the month she should really get it and be recognised. I thanked them for their impeccable staff training."
