Aldi comes to rescue of little girl with incredible surprise

A little girl who would only wear slippers to school was “made up” after Aldi gifted her a special surprise.

Summer Jones wore the supermarket's white pumps on long walks, meals out, to school and family parties. Although the seven-year-old had “hundreds” of other shoes she refused to wear anything else on her feet.

After wearing them “all of the time” Summer’s treasured white shoes had discoloured and started to tear at the bottom. Summer, who has Down's syndrome, was “very upset” when her mum LeAnne Tennant was forced to put them in the bin.

When she found out they had been discontinued the mum-of-five wrote a Facebook post to see if her friends owned similar shoes. LeAnne’s good friend Laura saw the social media post and immediately emailed Aldi to get her hands on the old model trainers.

The store’s management got back to Laura and promised to post the exact same plimsolls to Summer's address in New Brighton. Aldi also wrote the Elleray Park student a heart-warming letter.

In it they said: "To Summer, Please find some lovely new shoes for you to enjoy. We hope you love them and keep your feel cosy. Love, Aldi x"

LeAnne told the ECHO: “My daughter was so upset when we got rid of the shoes. I was so relieved when they came through the post, now she will finally wear shoes instead of slippers.

“She was wearing them everyday. The shoes couldn’t be saved as they were white and I had to put them in the bin.

“I need to give a shout out to my friend Laura, she’s put in a lot of effort and that’s the type of person she is. She’s lovely.”
