Aldi’s social media has once again left shoppers in stitches after asking for a hand with their Twitter account over the bank holiday weekend. And while some brands were happy to chip in, others brought up that still-raw lawsuit with M&S.
The budget supermarket giant has become well known not just for their low prices, but also their quick-witted social media editor, who never fails to shut down suggestions of dupes, or get other household names involved in debate.

This weekend, the team that runs their Twitter is planning to enjoy the long weekend like the rest of us, and asked their mates for a hand.
They wrote: “We're officially clocking off this bank holiday, anyone wanna take over for the weekend? @Specsavers @NandosUK @KFC_UKI @coopuk #AldiAdminOOO ”
Heinz - known for their spaghetti hoops and tomato ketchup - were among the first to reply, concerned about who would be looking after the middle aisle picks, writing: “Admin - if you're clocking off, who's going to pick the Bank Holiday SpecialBuys?”
And Morrisons chipped in: “Can we bring Clarence? Cuthbert’s looking a little lonely.”
But clearly the Colin vs Cuthbert row is still a fear for other supermarkets, with Co-op quipping: “Maybe, what’s the likelihood of any legal battles whilst you’re away?”
Another brand wading in on the drama was Holland & Barrett, who joked: “We’d cover but I don’t even think we have enough calming tea to get through another one of your lawsuits.”
But it’s clear that Cuthbert is popular among the other brands, with Dominos asking to be paid in cake, writing: “Will you pay us in Colin* the Caterpillar cakes? Sorry, we mean Cuthbert. See? We’re practising already!”

KitKat were pleased to see the Aldi admin taking a break, saying they sound like ‘our kind of people’, but Celebrations felt snubbed at not being asked to cover, adding: “We could have helped you with the bank holiday Celebrations but… seems like we didn’t make the cut.”
AO - who offer a £20 removal service - said they’d help ‘if you stock our fridges, while KFC requested a ‘blind pick in the middle aisle’ in return for some social media assistance. Yorkshire Tea were more specific in their demands, adding: "We'll do it for 300 jars of Nutoka."
Mamas and Papas said they’d be ‘up all hours’ with the babies, offering to cover the 3am shift, while Milkybar offered their delicious chocolates if Aldi promised to bring the sunshine.
If the news about Aldi taking the bank holiday off socials is true, then we only hope they’ve scheduled some tweets to keep us entertained over the weekend.
