Aldi brilliantly trolls Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA with hidden camera prank

Aldi pranked its competitors with a missing person joke based on their Kevin the Carrot mascot.

In the run-up to the holiday season, high street supermarkets are preparing to release their annual Christmas ad to pull at the nation's heartstrings. Several including Lidl and M&S have already released theirs but undisputed champs, John Lewis, are still keeping theirs close to their chest.

A running mascot for Aldi's ads has been the use of Kevin the Carrot, a personified carrot. Kevin has gone down so well with fans that the supermarket has released plushies, merch and toys of the Christmas character as his popularity continues to rise year after year.

Aldi has decided to tap into Kevin's mischievous behaviour by pranking several of their competitors in the run-up to the holidays. Filming themselves entering Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA, a woman can be seen contacting the help desk to request a favour.

Once at the desk, the woman can be heard requesting they send a message to all shoppers over the tannoy. She asks can the missing person, "Kevin Caroté", please make himself known.

The pun flies completely over the shop assistants' heads as they send the message throughout their stores. Sharing the video online, Aldi captioned the clip "UPDATE: We've still not found him."

The prank went down a storm with Aldi shoppers as one person branded the joke as "brilliant" marketing. He said: "Genius Aldi UK - your media team are brilliant! Talk about having your (carrot) cake and eating it."

Another added: "Oh this is so funny! Your SM team are award winners." A third said: "I joined twitter just to follow Aldi. It doesn't disappoint!!"

Aldi replied to several commenters who appreciated the post, thanking them for their praise as they made several carrot-based puns.
