Aldi and Lidl issue 'do not eat' warning after recalling cheese and ice lollies

Aldi and Lidl have issued food recalls over cheese and ice lollies amid health worries - as the products contain nuts and pieces of plastic.

Shoppers are now being warned that to be extra vigilant if they might have purchased either item, and are eligible for a full refund if so.

Aldi has issued a notice informing customers that some of their Gianni's Milk Chocolate Lollies packs may actually contain almond lollies. These could be a serious health threat for anyone with a nut allergy.

Meanwhile, Lidl has sent out a safety warning over its Simply Grated Cheddar, saying that the product may contain small pieces of plastic.

Product recall notices have now been issued for both items.

According to the Food Standards Agency, Lidl is recalling the grated cheddar cheese because it "may contain small pieces of plastic which makes it unsafe to eat".

It goes on to advise customers that have bought the affected product in the popular supermarket not to eat it.

Instead, they have said that customers should return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Lidl said in its point of sale notice: "Lidl GB is recalling Simply Grated Cheddar, 500g with best before Date 23/12/2022 due to the potential presence of pieces of plastic in the product, which makes this product unsafe to eat.

"If you have bought the above mentioned product we advise you not to eat it. Instead, return it to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt. Other Simply products and best before dates are not affected by this recall."

It added: "Lidl GB wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact Customer Services on 0800 4441234 or customer.services@lidl.co.uk."

Meanwhile, Aldi is recalling the lollies which were on sale at some Midlands stores as they are a "possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts".

The product affected in Aldi has the batch code of 815702 (Aldi)

The affected ice-creams are the four packs with a best before date of September 2024, with the batch code of 815702.

In its product recall notice it says: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling an isolated batch of Gianni's Milk Chocolate lollies as the packs may contain Gianni's Almond Lollies.

"Only a small number of our Midlands stores are affected. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."
