Aldi is at it again, this time with a dupe that fans say is a copy of designer fragrance Tom Ford but at a fraction of the price. Even Aldi references the premium scent saying their £4.99 store version is pounds cheaper than the high end brand.
The budget retailer is known for its 'close to the wire' copies of leading products. One of the latest items to hit the shelves is a fragrance within the retailer's popular health and beauty brand, Lacura. It says welcome to "two opulent fragrances to its cult line-up – Hotel Collection Tobacco & Vanilla Eau de Parfum and Hotel Collection Sandalwood & Jasmine Eau de Parfum".
The two additions drop as Aldi’s cruelty-free perfumes continue to make waves across social media, with one social media post racking up over 3k likes and hundreds of comments. One shopper wrote: "Best dupe ever. Bought six bottles of the sandalwood & Jasmine. Sprayed both and can’t tell the difference AT ALL". When someone asked what this was a dupe of, the shopper replied TF [Tom Ford].

Posting on its Instagram page, Aldi wrote: "Did someone say afFORDable fragrances? You asked we delivered Pick up Tobacco & Vanilla and Sandalwood & Jasmine in store now!" Fans soon responded, with one saying: "Picked up the jasmine / sandalwood yesterday it is gorgeous and lasts all day." Another said: "The amount of compliments I get from wearing Tobacco & Vanilla is nonstop", with a third adding: "It’s gonna be sold out for all of the time, isn’t it?"
Aldi explained that the 50ml Hotel Collection Tobacco & Vanilla Eau de Parfum "boasts notes of Tobacco Leaf and Spice that complement undertones of Vanilla, Cacao, Tonka Bean and Tobacco Blossom for a long-lasting, woody aroma." It added: "Promising to ooze confidence, this Eau de Parfum is perfect for mums seeking a more masculine scent."
The 50ml Hotel Collection Sandalwood & Jasmine Eau de Parfum is an "exotic scent" with top notes of Caraway and Cinnamon that are under-cut by Jasmine, Rose, Musk and Ylang-Ylang. it also has hints of Sandalwood, Musk and Agarwood.
One social media user commented: "Game upped!", while another joked: "Tom Fraud", with a third adding: "Tom Ford: *drafting court application" and a fourth agreeing: "Tom Ford is en route with the lawyer".
Someone else added: "Yes! My workmates literally asked if I was wearing Tom Ford! His reaction was priceless".
Priced at £4.99, Aldi says that the latest scents "arrive ahead of Mother’s Day and promise to leave mums feeling scent sational without pulling on the purse strings". However, the range was available to purchase in stores from February 9, so you may have to hunt across Nottinghamshire to track some down, as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Tom Ford fragrances are currently being stocked by Nottingham headquartered retailer Boots. As an example, Boots stocks Ombre Leather Eau de Parfum 100ml at £130 and 50ml of Noir Extreme Eau de Parfum costs £90.
