Albion Rovers players need to give more, says Blair Malcolm after club's third league defeat on the spin

Blair Malcolm reckons the Albion Rovers players have to give more for the cause after a third defeat on the spin leaves them pointless at the bottom of League Two.

The midfielder was named man of the match after Rovers did everything but score against East Fife, only for them to be hit by a second half sucker punch when Liam Nelson headed home the only goal of the game.

It has been the story of Rovers' start to the season after promising performances against Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton ultimately led to 1-0 and 2-1 defeats, respectively, having passed up numerous chances.

Saturday was no different as Kieran Dolan could have had a hat-trick but for some poor finishing and a top save from Fifers keeper Alan Fleming, who also kept out Charlie Reilly and Kieran McGrath to frustrate Brian Reid's side.

And Malcolm said: "I think we need to look at ourselves. Everybody has to give a bit more collectively.

"I think we could have got the ball down and passed it better, like we have done in previous games, even against Premiership and Championship opposition in the cup [Livingston and Cove Rangers].

"We can do it but this just wasn't our day.

"I think we've played even better than that. I don't think that was us firing on all cylinders.

"We've created more than enough to score goals but when you don't do it at one end, you get punished up the other."

On his award, he added: "Sometimes you put personal achievements behind the team performance and I'd rather we had the points.

"I think we did more than enough to come away with three points and on another day we take those chances."

A tough trip to newly-promoted Bonnyrigg Rose awaits next Saturday and Malcolm is desperate to get the win that he believes will kick-start their season.

He added: "We know it will be a battle. They are a big, strong, physical side so everybody has got to step up to that and do the best they can to get the points.

"There are no easy games in this league but we need to put this game to bed and get a good week's training in.

"We are just dying for one goal to go in to get that win and I think if we get that, it will just spur us on and breed confidence.

"When you actually look at the amount of chances we are creating, that is one of the pleasing aspects, but we've got to start putting them away."
