Albion Rovers goal hero Charlie Reilly: We made Glasgow Uni clash difficult for ourselves with first half misses

Albion Rovers midfielder Charlie Reilly admits they made it difficult for themselves against Glasgow Uni and should have been out of sight in the first half.

The League Two basement boys needed extra-time to overcome the West of Scotland League Second Division outfit yesterday after the tie finished 1-1 over 90 minutes.

Reilly netted an extra-time penalty to get Rovers going again before substitute Amaury Testa and a Tom Reid own goal made sure of their place in tomorrow's third round draw with a 4-1 win.

But Reilly reckoned they were almost made to rue missing a number of first half strikes which allowed Uni's Cameron Murray to cancel out Callum Wilson's first half opener.

He said: "The main thing was getting through to the next round but we made it hard for ourselves.

"We had chances in the first half where we were passing it about a lot and trying to force it into the net a bit, but we got there in the end.

"The extra-time is the frustrating bit because all season we can't seem to score as much as we should or get the final pass right, but that will come.

"If we keep working hard on it, we'll get there eventually."

Reilly netted his eighth goal of the season in the clash, which was also his seventh strike in his last nine games.

He added: "It's another goal, a couple of assists and the last one is an own goal but I'm happy with that.

"I'm feeling good and it has been a good season for me personally so far but there's a long way to go and hopefully I can keep that up and keep helping the team.

"I've got eight goals but that doesn't just come from me. Boys are putting it on a plate for me sometimes and I'm just putting them away.

"It's a team game and other people will get goals for us."

On tomorrow's draw, he said: "I fancy anybody, I don't mind. As long as we can keep winning and get to the next round and the round after that, that is the most important thing.

"We'll take what we are given but it would be good to get the crowd there for a home tie."

Rovers now look forward to hosting Stenhousemuir on Saturday when they return to League Two action and Reilly hopes this can provide a spark that lifts them off the foot of the division.

He said:"We are at the bottom of the table so a few goals will help the confidence, and we know it could have been even more if we've killed them off in the first half.

"But it gives us a positive to take into next weekend and we will keep working away to try and climb the table."
