Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid says it was a disappointment to his squad that they couldn’t keep their momentum going against Stirling Albion due to bad weather.
Stormy conditions over Friday made it the Forthbank pitch unplayable and Albion’s League Two trip to the Binos on Saturday was postponed. A new date for the fixture is to be arranged.
It’s particularly frustrating for Reid, who’s men already have a backlog of fixtures to catch up on. This call-off comes after a 2-1 win over Edinburgh City last Tuesday.
Kyle Doherty’s stunning finish claimed a vital win at Ainslie Park after City’s John Robertson cancelled out a Michael Travis own goal.
Reid said of the Forthbank postponement: “We were wanting to play the game as we are already behind some of the other teams on games played. So we are disappointed. It’s difficult for part-time players to have so many games.
“But I suppose last year when we had a really small squad we were playing midweek games every week, almost, until the end of the season because it was shortened.
“It didn’t impact us last season so hopefully it won’t impact us this season. We have got a small squad and getting guys to be available with their work can be difficult, but we just have to get on with it like last season.
“I suppose it was everyone last season but it is what is. Everyone needs to dig in.”
Up next for the Wee Rovers is a trip to the coast against Stranraer and having a gap over one week in length between fixtures isn’t ideal, according to Reid.
He would liked to have had his side play on to try and clear their fixture schedule, on top of pushing for a spot towards the top end of the League Two table.
He explained: “You want to go on a wee run and you can see the difference it makes when you do put together a wee run of results.
"If you can string two or three wins together, you are right in the mix again up the table.
“It’s not going to be that way as we have had this free weekend.
Our next game is away down at Stranraer so weather permitting, we get that on. It’s disappointing to be missing games at this time of year.”
