Albion Rovers deserved a draw at Forfar, says boss after eight key players missed defeat

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid felt his depleted side deserved to take a point from their trip to Forfar as the Loons put an end to their five game unbeaten run in League Two.

Ben Armour’s strike after 33 minutes was all that separated the sides at Station Park, but Rovers were left to rue big chances for Jamie Leslie and Luke Graham in the final 20 minutes, where Forfar keeper Marc McCallum produced two big saves to deny Rovers a share of the spoils.

It sees bottom of the table Forfar close the gap on Rovers to just a point at the foot of the table.

Rovers were missing eight key players – Sean Fagan, Liam Fagan, Michael Paton, Devan McColl, Callum Wilson, Ayrton Sonkur, Chris Smith and Max Wright – and Reid was gutted his depleted side didn’t get something out of the clash.

He said: “We are disappointed the run has come to an end but we were done to the bare bones again on Saturday, with eight players missing.

“That is not going to help any team, it doesn’t matter who you are. We had players out of position and it was a makeshift team, but the players are a good bunch and responded to that.

“We never really got going at the start of the game and we lost a poor goal, but we grew into it and there wasn’t much between the teams.

“We actually felt we could have got something but we never took our chances when we had them in the last half hour.

“We held our own for most of the game and we should have come down the road with a draw. If we’d got something it would have pushed us on again.”

Rovers now have a week off with the SPFL Trust Trophy taking place this weekend.

They return to action on December 17 at home to third-place Elgin City.
