Albion Rovers are doing all the right things – but boss Brian Reid wants the full reward of a goal and three points.
The Cliftonhill side have enjoyed a positive week of League Two action, picking up stalemates against league leaders Kelty Hearts and promotion-chasing Forfar Athletic to put some clear distance between themselves and bottom side Cowdenbeath.
Reid’s men threatened to shock Kelty with Kyle Doherty and Sean Fagan efforts proving to be big chances.
A similar storyline played out on Saturday against Forfar, with Max Wright crashing a shot off the crossbar late on in the game. Callum Wilson was brought down in the penalty box but no spot-kick was given.
Josh Jack also had a claim waved away after being clipped inside the box.
Ahead of Tuesday night’s match with Stirling Albion, Rovers sat ninth and eight points above Cowdenbeath.
Reid said: “I think we are playing well at the moment which is good. It’s good that we are creating chances and we are managing to keep clean sheets.
“That’s all positive so we just need to keep chipping away at things. I think when one goal goes in, some team might be on the end of a heavy defeat. We just need that one goal to drop in.
“I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances, and we are creating a lot of them. We are defending well and keeping clean sheets, which is good.
“There were plenty of positives from the match against a good Forfar team, who are up in the promotion play-off spots. We need to keep believing in ourselves and being confident.”
An early goal might be the remedy to Rovers’ problem in front of goal according to Reid, who was disappointed to see St Mirren loanee Jack’s penalty claim waved away.
He explained: “Josh has a great chance and then we get the penalty claim from it. He was clipped and we felt it was a blatant penalty.
“Why would he want to go down there? But he probably should have shot earlier and he knows that. If we had scored then, that’s the start you are looking to build on.”
Prior to Tuesday, Rovers had won just one league game in 11 attempts, but Reid doesn’t think his team have picked up the rewards they deserve.
He added: “The results don’t quite relate to how well our performances have been.
“It’s not gone for us but I’d be more worried if we weren’t putting up a fight. But we are.”
