Albion Rovers boss blasts 'leg-breaker' tackle in fiery win over Stirling Albion

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid insists midfielder Callum Wilson is lucky he didn't break his leg in last night's win over Stirling Albion after what he claims was a "stupid" tackle from Dylan Mackin.

The Stirling Albion striker was sent off in first half stoppage time for a reckless lunge and Rovers - who also saw their striker Kyle Doherty ordered off late on for a high challenge - were furious with the tackle.

Reid's men grabbed a late winner through Sean Fagan to win 1-0 and go nine points clear of League Two's bottom side Cowdenbeath.

But Reid was far from happy with the challenge on his player.

He said: "For me, there is no doubt about the Stirling red card because that's a leg breaker.

"Fortunately, wee Callum saw it coming and got his legs off the ground.

"If his legs were on the ground, that would have been a broken leg, so there's no doubt it was red.

"It was stupid from the boy. I don't know what he was thinking.

"It just came out of nowhere."

Asked for his thoughts on Doherty's sending off, Reid added: "After that they [Stirling] were determined to wind our players up, go down and scream for free kicks and things like that.

"Doc rose to the bait and that was a bit naive from him.

"He should have just smiled at them and not got involved.

"It was petulance more than anything else from him. Maybe a yellow would have been more appropriate.

"But fortunately it didn't cost us and the boys dug him out of a hole, because it could have been costly for us.

"Doc can pat Fagey on the back for that one.

"With 10 men Stirling made it hard for us and they were probably better with the 10 men. That can happen sometimes because players try that wee bit harder when they are up against it.

"But we managed to get the goal we needed."
