Albion Rovers are on form so we will be confident in Spartans play-off, says Scott Roberts

Scott Roberts says Albion Rovers are going into their play-off for SPFL survival in good form and that gives him the confidence they can put Spartans to the sword to stay in League Two.

The Cliftonhill side will face the Lowland League champions over two legs in the pyramid play-off final across the next two Saturday in a bid to keep their place in the fourth-tier after finishing the campaign bottom of the pile.

But Saturday's 2-0 win over division winners Stirling Albion, in which goals from Joe Bevan and Charlie Reilly delivered the three points that weren't enough to save them, and their recent form has the midfielder believing the can come out on top.

Rovers have won three of their six outings under boss Sandy Clark, who replaced Brian Reid after he was sacked in March.

And Roberts said: "Over the last six games we've been really good and are maybe a bit unfortunate to find ourselves where we are, so that's why we feel confident going into these last two games.

"We are all together and I am positive about it all. I think we will do well.

"There's a lot of clubs this has happened to and they've frittered away at the end, but I think we have actually got stronger towards the end of the season so we are going into the play-offs playing quite well.

"I'm really confident we can do the job.

"We know what we are up against but I'd back us against anybody this year. As long as we are on it, it should take care of itself.

"It's always good to win your last game when you are going into the play-offs."

It's been a Jekyll and Hyde season for Rovers, who shocked Stirling and defeated runners-up Dumbarton 4-0 earlier in the campaign.

A look at the table sees them on a solid tally of 39 points with a goal difference of just minus one (the fifth-best in the division), and that's all in a campaign which has seen midfielder Charlie Reilly hit 24 goals and bag a PFA League Two player of the year nomination.

Roberts added: "It's been a strange season. Most of the games there has been one goal in it and we've not been far away this year, we probably just didn't put enough runs together.

"It's always been a case of win a couple, lose a couple and you are going to be near the bottom if that's what you are doing.

"The boys are a bit disheartened but we can't rely on other results to keep us in the league.

"We just have to go for it in the next two weeks and see how we get on."
