Alarming Ayr gang robberies branded 'horrific' as police work scene for clues

Shocking gang robberies in broad daylight have been branded as 'horrific'.

Politicians have been reacting to the alarming news that a hooded band of thugs burst into two Ayr homes at the weekend.

The calculating crooks made off with a haul of cash and jewellery after targeting two houses in Ayr’s Fenwickland Avenue on Saturday at 2.40pm.

The frightening ordeal began when the group demanded property from their victims.

The intruders fled with a two-figure sum of cash and jewellery.

Yesterday afternoon, cops were still at the scene carrying out enquiries and combing the scene for any clues.

Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown said: “These horrific robberies have left the community shaken.

“For two homes to be targeted in broad daylight is nothing short of shocking.

“Someone out there knows who did this, and I would urge them to speak to the police. I would also urge everyone to be vigilant and keep doors locked until these criminals are caught.”

Ward councillor Mary Kilpatrick added : “I am shocked and surprised that something like this has occurred in a residential area.

“I think it is alarming. Surely someone seen something.

“I hope they can get help to find out who did this.

“I would urge people with any information to contact the police.”

Ayrshire Live contacted police to ask them what type of jewellery was stolen in a bid to help trace the suspects. We also wanted to know if any of the victims had been hurt or threatened and if the assailants were armed during the robbery.

A police spokesperson replied that they could not give out further details due to operational reasons.

The suspects were described as wearing dark clothing and had their hoods up and and faces covered.

Detective constable Stuart McCulloch, from Ayr CID, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who was in the Fenwickland Avenue area around 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon who witnessed anything suspicious to please come forward.”

Witnesses should contact CID on 101, quoting incident 1842, or alternatively telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free and anonymity can be maintained.
