Alan Titchmarsh accused of 'ruining' garden of elderly couple with '150 children'

Alan Titchmarsh and his team are known for making incredible garden transformations and on Tuesday night they were on hand to help transform another family's garden, however not every viewer was convinced by the end result.

ITV1's Love Your Garden visited elderly couple Rob and Margaret Isdale, who have amazingly fostered more than 150 children over the past 45 years, writes Examiner Live.

The couple have helped children find their forever homes over the years, and to thank them, Alan Titchmarsh and co-stars Katie Rushworth, David Domoney and Frances Tophill were keen to transform their drab garden into a magical space inspired by The Secret Garden to help give something back to them.

Alan had the idea of turning their shed into a Tudor inspired design, while adding several crumbling 'columns' of brick, or as Alan put it 'ancient looking follies' that would effectively add lots of 'fake' ruins to the garden.

Alan told viewers: "I want this new garden to make them feel as cared for as the children who come to their home."

The end result was definitely an improvement from before but not everyone was a fan of the results, especially the fake ruins made of brick and the shed made to look middle ages, even though it wasn't.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Omg ! The 'Love your garden' people ruining that lovely garden ... with bricks and concrete! ! #loveyourgarden No thank you!"

Another said: "It’s too crowded and busy for me but as long as they like it… #LoveYourGarden"

After the work was done, Alan revealed the transformation to Rob and Margaret.

The after (ITV)

The pair immediately became tearful as they told Alan: "Goodness me! It's the best I've seen it looking. Wow."

"Thank you so much. I can't believe it - it's just...."

Alan then said: "and we found the ruins of an old abbey in your garden."

Margaret laughed: "Brilliant!"

Rob added: "I knew it would be special but that's extra special. Thank you so much."

Alan then invited several of the 150 foster kids that the couple have looked after to see the garden for a wholesome and very large family reunion.
