Alan Stubbs made the perfect Sean Dyche prediction before Everton beat Arsenal

Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs believes the appointment of Sean Dyche as the club's new manager could be the "kick up the backside" that is needed.

And if Dyche's first game in charge of Everton is anything to go by, the boyhood Blue could be right.

The Goodison Park outfit won 1-0 at home to table-topping Arsenal earlier today to get the 51-year-old's reign off to the perfect start. It was a win that moved the Blues - temporarily at least - out of the relegation places.

And before it, Stubbs predicted that former Burnley boss Dyche would make an impact. "I do think it's the right decision because I think he's a simplistic manager and, right now, Everton need very simple ideas to play to," Stubbs said speaking to BT Sport.

"I think the players have looked confused, they've lacked a zip, an energy and at times, they've lacked ideas and that's the reason they're in the position they're in.

"I think with Sean Dyche, I think what he'll do, he'll get them organised. That's the brief he sets with his team. With Everton, they needed disclipline, a kick up the backside, some of them or the majority of them. I think this team they've lacked discipline as well."

After James Tarkowski's second-half header earned the Blues their first victory since October, Dyche said: "I'll make it clear it's not that they weren't [playing for the badge], just needs shining up a little bit, there was commitment, you need to add to it, rebuild it sometimes.

"It's not like that they weren't, it just maybe got softened, not knocking what they were trying to do with the last manager. I've got my style of working, that's all it is, that's part of it, we want to make sure everybody knows we are committed to the cause, we are giving everything."
