Alan Shearer has been highly critical of Edouard Mendy for Chelsea's howler' as the Blues failed to earn back-to-back wins at Elland Road in the Premier League against Leeds United.
Jesse Marsch's side were a team inspired on the pitch and that was reflected in the red hot atmosphere the Leeds fans created for their side. A quick flurry of goals midway through the first half settled the game as Jack Harrison eventually added the icing on the cake in the second period.
For the first goal, the usually reliable Mendy dithered on the ball way too long and allowed Brendan Aaronson a simple tap-in. A moment that got some Chelsea fans thinking that Kepa Arrizabalaga should be brought back into the equation. His football.london player rating read: 'Having had a confident opening 30 minutes, Chelsea's goalkeeper kept hold of the ball too long near Brendan Aaronson, and a poor touch saw the American nip in for an easy finish. Could not be faulted for the following goals but the first set the tone for the afternoon. 5.'

Manager Thomas Tuchel didn't need to speak to the Senegalese individually for his post-match debrief, as, like international compatriot Kalidou Koulibaly, both knew they had horror shows in Yorkshire on Super Sunday.
"He knows himself. With these kinds of mistakes, I don't think we need to speak a lot," Tuchel informed in his post-match press conference. "He knows himself that this was a mistake, and honestly, this has nothing to do with protection or no protection. Everybody in the world sees the mistake. It's a huge mistake at a crucial time of the match. It does not help, and he's the one that is the most disappointed because it cost us a lot today."
Whilst analysing the game itself and where it went wrong for Chelsea in game week 3, as well as praising Leeds United's attacking intent from the get-go, Premier League icon Shearer was highly critical of the 30-year-old who he believed was warned before the 33rd-minute incident occurred.
"It was an incredible game of football," Shearer told BBC Match of the Day 2. "Other than the first few minutes of the game where Raheem Sterling missed a big opportunity for Chelsea, Leeds battered Chelsea.
"They went after them. They didn't give them a moment of peace. Their energy, their application, the way the manager had them in terms of the pressing but it wasn't just about pressing, when they got the ball, they played some fantastic football."
He then added on Mendy more specifically later in his analysis: "He gets a warning here the goalkeeper, because that is what Leeds were going to do.
"They were going to close him down and offer no time on the ball for any Chelsea player to play their game. So we had the warning but he didn't take any notice.
"He tries to be too clever and he gets done, It's an absolute howler."
