Alan Shearer shares transfer hope that most Newcastle United fans will have

Alan Shearer has a transfer wish like every other Newcastle United fan - that more big-money signings will follow this summer after a busy winter window.

The club’s all-time record goalscorer showed he was just like any other Toon supporter as he responded to Gary Linker’s tweet urging Leicester City to sign Sven Botman at the end of the season.

The Lille defender was heavily courted by Newcastle back in January with several bids for the 22-year-old being rejected, and United are expected to go back in for him once the current campaign ends.

But Shearer, a colleague of Linker’s, wasn’t happy with the suggestion that The Foxes could secure Botman’s signature, and responded to the Match of the Day host’s tweet with a warning.

Firstly replying ‘ahem’ before Linker pointed out that United have ‘just bought Dan Burn,’ but Shearer doesn’t appear content with just Burn, and replied ‘and more in the summer.’

It seems a surreal position for many Newcastle fans, and no doubt Shearer too, that there is already some optimism and excitement about the summer window after 14 years of Mike Ashley and an expectation that the club would do relatively little in the market.

But with Ashley gone and replaced by the Saudi backed consortium, the group have already shown their intent to strengthen as they added five to the squad last month - Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes signing alongside defender Burn.

As Chronicle Live reported earlier this week plans are already in place for this summer’s transfer market.
