Alan Shearer sends 'bizarre' message to Farhad Moshiri as Rafa Benitez sacked by Everton

Alan Shearer has branded the way Everton are being run as 'bizarre' following Rafa Benitez’s sacking.

Everton confirmed the sacking of Benitez on Sunday afternoon after less than seven months in charge of the club.

The Spaniard enjoyed an encouraging opening to his reign, with the Blues picking up 13 points from a possible 18 in their opening six games.

But, while not helped by injuries and COVID cases, Everton's form has been dreadful since, amid growing fan unrest.

And their deeply disappointing defeat against Norwich City on Saturday, means the Blues have now won just one of their last 13 Premier League matches.

But while Shearer believes Benitez will have known the sack would be coming as a result of his side’s poor run of form, he doesn't believe the Spaniard’s departure will fix Everton’s problems.

“You can’t argue with that. If you go into management, then you know you can’t be on a run of form like Everton have had,” the former Newcastle United forward told Premier League Productions.

“No matter how good you have been. No matter how experienced you are. You are going to lose your job. But that doesn’t solve all the problems at Everton.

“When you look at what has happened over the previous six years and now they are looking for their seventh manager in six years?

“Over half a billion pounds has been spent. That tells you the manager is an issue, but not all of the issues.

“They spend another £30 or 40 odd million in the last two weeks. They let one of their best players go during the past week, I presume because the manager didn’t want and get on with him.

“It’s just bizarre and it sums up the way Everton are being run, at this moment in time.”
