Alan Shearer's previous Kieran Tierney claim proves why he'd be key Newcastle United signing

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has previously claimed that Kieran Tierney is 'everything you want from a modern full-back' amid the left-back's links with a move to Newcastle United.

The Arsenal star has been forced out of his regular starting role from last season after Oleksandr Zinchenko's move to the Gunners from Manchester City has seen him be given a majority of the starts by manager Mikel Arteta.

With Dan Burn and Matt Targett the two current players in that area for the Magpies, it's believed Eddie Howe's side have had the Scotsman's representatives come to them looking for a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

The Newcastle boss did let slip that he was looking to improve areas in his squad in his post-match press conference after his side was beaten 2-0 by Manchester United last weekend in the Carabao Cup Final.

"Every game gives that clue of where you need to strengthen," Howe admitted. "We are always analysing where we can improve and how we need to get better.

"I don’t think there will be any overreaction to this game in particular but certainly we know how and what we need to do to push the team on."

With the investment the Magpies have already seen from their new ownership group over the last year, it's no surprise that they'll be dipping back into the transfer market heavily in the summer to make a potential charge for the Premier League title next season.

And while many might believe that if Tierney is being dropped by the current league leaders and wouldn't be good enough for Newcastle, Shearer has previously highlighted why Tierney would make a good fit into Eddie Howe's system.

"He provided everything you want from a modern full-back," he told the Premier League website back in 2021 after Tierney's performance against West Brom.

"Scoring a brilliant goal and setting up another while also helping his team keep a clean sheet."
