Legendary Newcastle United forward Alan Shearer has given his verdict on the Magpies signing of England international goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley.
Pope joined Newcastle on a four-year deal from the Clarets and is thought to have cost them around £12m. He is a proven Premier League goalkeeper and is one of the league's best shot-stoppers.
The 30-year-old will compete with incumbent Martin Dubravka for the Magpies number one shirt, with both of them vying to start Newcastle's season opener against Nottingham Forest at St James' Park.

There has been talk Newcastle did not need to sign another first-choice goalkeeper this summer, with Dubravka proving to be a solid performer over the years.
However, Pope represents tremendous value for money for Newcastle, in a summer that they need to box smart in the transfer market. The fact of the matter is he is an excellent goalkeeper who will either improve Newcastle on the pitch or spur Dubravka on to great heights by providing added competition.
And Newcastle's greatest ever goalscorer Shearer reckons Pope is a great signing for the Magpies.
Replying to a tweet from Match of the Day which asked if Pope was a good signing for Newcastle, Shearer simply replied "Yes" in a quote tweet.
Pope becomes Newcastle's second signing of the summer after Matt Targett made his loan move from Aston Villa a permanent one earlier this month.
With Newcastle keen not to pay a 'Newcastle tax' this summer, both Pope and Targett are strong signings for a side looking to improve by adding proven Premier League quality players to their squad at a good price.
