Alan Shearer is convinced Brighton star Moises Caicedo will become a 'top player' amid talk of a big-money to a Premier League rival. Newcastle United are among the clubs who have been linked to the 21-year-old who starred in Ecuador's victory over Qatar in the opening game of the World Cup.
Dan Ashworth was Brighton's technical director at the time of signing Caicedo for just £4.5 million in January last year. The midfielder spent time on loan at Belgian outfit Beerschot, before establishing himself as a key player under both Graham Potter and his successor Roberto De Zerbi.
Reports last month suggest the Seagulls are open to a prospective sale, with Chelsea and Liverpool also among the clubs credited with an interest. However, the Premier League high-flyers are said to have placed an £85m price tag on the 21-year-old who is contracted to the club until the summer of 2025.

Shearer singled Caicedo out for praise in the BBC studio ahead of the World Cup's opening game on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies' all-time record goalscorer believes young midfielder is able to a 'little bit of everything' and has already established himself as the 'heartbeat' of the team for Ecuador.
Shearer told BBC Sport: "He's going to be a top player and he could be one that really stands out. He's only 21 and he's the heartbeat of this young side.
"He made his debut two years ago and the manager asked him to man-mark Lionel Messi which tells you the trust he has in him. He can do a little bit of everything, he's athletic, he can tackle, he can pass, he can read the game. Scores one or two goals.
"What's also important is that he's got a really good link-up with his Brighton teammate down the left-hand-side, Estupinian, and they're strong down there. That's one to keep an eye on, they understand each other's game and link up well. That's certainly one for us to watch tonight."
