Alan Shearer perfectly sums up Kylian Mbappe after France heroics at World Cup

Alan Shearer has hailed Kylian Mbappe after the attacker sent France through to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Mbappe scored twice to secure a win for Les Bleus against Denmark, a result that guarantees they will qualify for the Last 16 from Group D. He broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, seeing a deflected effort go in past Kasper Schmeichel.

The Danes quickly equalised when Andreas Christensen headed in after France had failed to clear a corner. Just as the game looked to be heading for a draw though, Mbappe stepped up to send his side through to the knockout stages.

He escaped the attention of Denmark's defence to convert Antoine Griezmann's cross at the far post with six minutes remaining. His heroics have only added to his burgeoning reputation as football's next superstar.

And former Newcastle striker Shearer has admitted he cannot find a weakness in Mbappe's game. That has led to Shearer branding the Paris Saint-Germain attacker a "superstar".

"France have looked very good again - particularly in forward areas. Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman, Ousmane Dembele and of course that guy Kylian Mbappe. What a player, what a superstar," Shearer said during commentary for Radio 5 Live.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Who was man of the match as France defeated Denmark? Comment below.

"He made the difference tonight. They were asked the question when Denmark got back into the game, what have you got? Didier Deschamps made a couple of changes and they worked perfectly.

"When you've got that guy in your team in the form that he's in - he looks so comfortable and confident in front of goal - you've got a chance. He won the game for them. I don't see a weakness in Kylian Mbappe's game - I said he's a superstar and he has incredible talent.

"Whatever you want - the touch, the technique, the left foot and the right foot, the spring in the air, the ability to finish it off, the ability to get in and score the great goals as well as the scrappy goals. I don't see a weakness - he is fantastic. Great to watch."

Shearer also believes that having Mbappe in the team hands France a huge chance of retaining the World Cup.

"Whatever you have to have as a forward, Kylian Mbappe's got it all. The timing of his runs, the understanding of when and how to go. He's a very special talent," he added.

"Because of him, that is France's chance. If he keeps on performing and he's in that mood, France have got a chance.

"He looks like a kid in the playground - he just looks like he's enjoying it. As soon as he gets the ball, you can hear the roar - and he's feeding off that, there's no doubt about that. He loves that - and rightly so."

The win over Denmark means that France will likely top their group, meaning they will face the runners-up of Group C in the last 16. That group is still wide open, with Poland top, Saudi Arabia second, Mexico third and Argentina bottom.
