Alan Shearer once joked he would urge Harry Kane to go abroad in order to preserve his Premier League goalscoring record. Now, the Newcastle United legend might just get his wish as Bayern Munich made their move for the England captain.
News broke on Tuesday morning that the Bundesliga champions had submitted an offer worth at least £60 million for the Tottenham striker. Kane has one year left on his contract, and again looks set to be the subject of transfer speculation this summer.
Manchester City failed in their efforts to sign the now 29-year-old in the summer of 2021, before capitalising on a favourable release clause to land Erling Haaland a year later. Manchester United continue to be linked with Kane, while Real Madrid could also make a move after the departure of Karim Benzema.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is said to have identified Kane as a transfer priority this summer, according to the Athletic. There is no indication at this stage as to whether Tottenham will negotiate or simply reject the formal offer.

Shearer currently stands clear of the all-time Premier League goalscoring chart on 260 strikes, although Kane is quickly narrowing the gap. The Tottenham striker netted 30 times last season to leapfrog both Andy Cole and Wayne Rooney, and he now trails Newcastle's legendary number nine by 47 goals.
Shearer is frequently asked about Kane's future and the prospect of losing the record to England's all-time top scorer. The BBC Sport pundit joked in April last year that Real Madrid or PSG should be the next destination for the striker.
Shearer told the Match of the Day podcast: “If Conte is going to leave then he is leaving (because) they're not going to match his ambition. Then Harry has to go, I think.
“I think he should go! (abroad) He should go to Real Madrid or PSG.”
However, Shearer should not get ahead of himself just yet judging by Kane's previous comments on a move abroad. Speaking with Gary Neville on the Overlap two years ago, the Spurs star admitted chasing down the Premier League record is one of his career objectives.
Kane said: "Of course there's always the option of maybe moving abroad one day but I don't think that really interests me in the near future. I'd be lying if I said I didn't (want the Premier League record), I think if I get to the end and I haven't broke that record and the Wayne Rooney England record (53 goals) then I'd probably be a little disappointed in myself."
