Alan Shearer has backed Leeds United attacker Rodrigo Moreno to beat his goal tally from last season after his red-hot start to the new campaign. Rodrigo has netted three times in the opening two matches, which is already half of what he managed in the whole of last term.
The 31-year-old found the back of the net just six times in the 2021/22 campaign, in what was a difficult year for the Spain international. Rodrigo, though, has picked up where he left off during pre-season in front of goal.
He scored four goals in five matches during the summer, which has seen him come into his third year at Elland Road full of confidence. After putting Leeds 2-0 up at St. Mary’s, Rodrigo must’ve thought he had done enough to earn a second consecutive win of the season.

He neatly converted a Jack Harrison cross at the near post for his first, before heading in from under the crossbar to double Leeds’ lead. But Leeds failed to hold onto their two-goal advantage and headed back up north frustrated to only come away with a point.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer believes Leeds will be pleased with their start to the season despite the draw, and is ‘sure’ Rodrigo will better his tally of six from last year.
He said: “They’d have taken that before a ball was kicked this season, you’re right they will be disappointed with letting a two goal lead slip away. Rodrigo another two, three already this season, only got six last season so I’m sure he’ll beat that.”
