Former England captain and Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has backed West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen to return to top form.
Hammers star Bowen had a brilliant 2021/22 season in the Premier League and was one of three players in the division to finish in double figures for both goals and assists alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Mason Mount.
However, Bowen has struggled for form in the league so far and while he has scored twice in three appearances in the Europa Conference League, the former Hull City forward has not scored or registered an assist in seven Premier League starts so far this term.

Bowen is in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for upcoming matches in the UEFA Nations League against Italy and Germany and if he makes one more appearance for the Three Lions, he will trigger a clause which means the Hammers would be obliged to pay £1million to Hull City’s former owners, Assem and Ehab Allam.
Speaking on Bowen’s form, Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer, was discussing David Moyes’ recent rotation with attacking players and feels that not only will Bowen keep his regular place in the starting side, but he will also get back to his best form soon.
“We know he can do it, it’s just a matter of time,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2. “I think he’s the one that will stay and he has done and I know you’ve just read out no assists, no goals, but that will change, he’s too good of a player not to.”
Of all players in the Premier League this season, Bowen (15) ranks joint-second for most shots without scoring alongside Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams. Only Brighton and Hove Albion’s Solly March (17) has been unsuccessful in front of goal more often.
