Alan Shearer makes Nottingham Forest transfer prediction

Alan Shearer thinks Brennan Johnson will be a Premier League player next season even if Nottingham Forest do not win promotion from the Championship.

The former England and Newcastle United striker was on punditry duty for the BBC for the FA Cup fourth-round clash this afternoon as Johnson's talent was discussed.

The Wales international has had a superb season so far and it led the Reds to reject several offers from Premier League side Brentford, one of which was said to be worth more than £18m.

His form has helped carry the Reds towards the Championship play-offs and Shearer feels Johnson is destined for England's top-flight whether Forest are successful or not.

"If Forest are not playing in the Premier League next season then I think this guy will be," he said.

"There was interest in him in January. They turned down big money for him in the hope he can help them get promoted.

"He's got a really good understanding down the right-hand side with Djed Spence. He's got incredible pace to get in behind you.

"Not many will catch him. He's a very good player, very talented, only 20 years of age.

"He's got five assists and seven goals this season. He's got a great future ahead of him."
