Alan Shearer makes 'massive' Nottingham Forest comment after Brighton win as he reveals trap

Alan Shearer has hailed Nottingham Forest after their win over Brighton on Wednesday, saying it "wasn't a fluke".

Steve Cooper's side earned their first win since beating Leeds in February with a 3-1 victory over the Seagulls at the City Ground. The result lifts the Reds out of the relegation zone with five games left.

Brighton took the lead on the night but Forest responded after an own goal from Pascal Gross with a fantastic finish from Danilo and a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty to seal a vital three points.

And Shearer believes the Reds fully deserved the win against Roberto de Zerbi's team.

"Nottingham Forest deserved it," he said on Match of the Day. "I think because of what Brighton went through at the weekend, the extra time and the penalties, I think they knew they had to be patient tonight because they knew Brighton were going to have more of the ball and that was exactly the case, but they capitalised on every single error and punished them for every single error.

"They had to be patient and Brighton did make errors there's no doubt about it but they set the trap for them to do that and they did very well at doing that, they were patient.

"This wasn't a fluke tonight, Forest deserved it. It was a massive three points for them. There was too many errors from Brighton but it was because of the way that they went after them and they got the goals when they needed to get the goals and you could see and feel the relief in the ground."
