Alan Shearer launches extraordinary rant and slams 'embarrassing' Manchester United players

Alan Shearer has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United's players following Saturday's defeat to Brighton.

United have endured an utterly miserable campaign this term, but it somehow got worse this weekend. United lost 4-0 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening after the club's gutless playing squad registered another embarrassing performance.

United went 1-0 goal down within 15 minutes in the match and capitulated just after half-time. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard all get onto the scoresheet, in a memorable result for the south coast club.

Shearer, analysing the game on Match of the Day, went on an extraordinary rant after the game to condemn United's players. The Premier League's all-time leading scorer branded the players 'shambolic' and lambasted their lack of commitment.

“They were shambolic, Manchester United, they were an embarrassment," Shearer said

"And if he hasn't already, Ralf Rangnick should get his players in tomorrow and show them the performance from Brighton.

“Because this is what committed footballers do for their club, their fans, for their teammates and their managers. They work hard, they are prepared to put a shift in, they are organised and they are committed. It should be a given, but it's not at Manchester United.

“They should watch this, because these Brighton players today showed what they should do for their fans. They were magnificent, and some of the football they played was fantastic. They [United] are totally lost, but what are they doing on the training ground?

“You have to work on things, and that's what Brighton do. United were an embarrassment to their football club today.”
