Alan Shearer jokes he’ll ‘drive Harry Kane to Bayern Munich’ to protect Premier League record

Alan Shearer has offered to drive Harry Kane to Germany himself to push through his transfer to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham have rejected a bid from the Bundesliga champions, who are understood by Standard Sport to be preparing a second approach that could top £85million.

For Shearer, Kane remaining in the Premier League for another couple of seasons puts his goal record under serious threat, although he still feels destined to lose the honour.

“If Harry wants to join Bayern, I’ll drive his f****** car there myself,” he wrote for The Athletic.

“Anything to protect my Premier League goalscoring record of 260 — Harry is on 213. In truth, any hope there is probably forlorn. Harry is nearly 30, but he looks after himself, he’s steered clear of major injuries and he’s perfectly capable of coming back to England in a couple of years’ time and banging in enough goals to overtake me.

“Still, though. Give me the keys and a sat nav and off I’ll go…”

One factor that Shearer reckons could influence Spurs is the recent arrival of James Maddison, which could hint that the club will refuse to sell Kane this summer after investing in a new £40m playmaker.

“If I was Maddison, once I’d got personal terms out of the way, the first thing I’d be asking of Tottenham is assurances that Kane isn’t leaving,” he added.

“Imagine how p***** off you’d be if you’d pictured yourself creating chances for one of the world’s best finishers and then, bang — he’s gone.”
