Alan Shearer says Harry Kane may decide against a move to Manchester United if he doesn’t believe he needs trophies to class his career as a success.
The England captain is on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist of potential summer striker targets alongside Napoli star Victor Osimhen with Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos also of interest.
Kane became Tottenham’s all-time top scorer with his winner against Manchester City last Sunday and has now also hit 200 Premier League goals. He will be eyeing Shearer’s record of 260 strikes as he enters his 30s.

However, the 29-year-old - also one goal away from being England’s outright all-time top scorer - has not lifted a trophy in his career and could seek a summer move in the hunt of a better chance at silverware depending on how Spurs end up faring this season.
Kane is in the final 18 months of his contract and says there has not yet been much talk of a renewal. Shearer was targeted by United several times in the 1990s but maintained he has no regrets about turning an offer down to instead join boyhood favourites Newcastle in 1996.
He argued that Kane’s personal achievements are accolades in themselves and that he may feel that he doesn’t need a trophy to be satisfied with his career.
Speaking to the BBC, Shearer said: "There is not one minute of any day when I wake up and look back at my career, and think I wish I went to Man United because I would have won the Champions League or more medals. Never, not once.
“I look at Harry Kane and he has the Spurs record and will have a statue, he will get the England record and possibly get a statue at Wembley, he’s got a good chance he will get the Premier League record.
“They are his medals and I totally understand the decision if he decides to stay at Spurs. If he does not win a trophy it will not bother him one bit, because it does not bother me at all.”
