Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has defended Alexandre Lacazette for his penalty run-up during Arsenal's win over Leicester City.
The Gunners secured a fairly comfortable 2-0 victory in Sunday's Premier League clash thanks to an early header from Thomas Partey and a second-half spot-kick from French frontman Lacazette, who signed for a reported £50million back in 2017.
However, Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was unhappy with the former Lyon forward's stutter run-up for his penalty, something that Shearer rubbished after the match.
"Well, he would have a problem, he’s a goalkeeper,” the former England striker said on Premier League Productions. “I don’t see any problem with that.
“Kasper won’t be happy that he stop-starts his run.
"You wouldn’t have known that, the way he took that penalty, he hasn’t scored for so long because that was taken with confidence.
“High into the net. The goalkeeper had absolutely no chance and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s a good penalty and it rightfully stood.”
The win means Mikel Arteta's side are back up to fourth in the current Premier League standings, with Manchester United briefly going above them following their 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.
United are now one point behind Arsenal, with the north Londoners also having three games in hand as they look to end their five-year UEFA Champions League hiatus.
Still, Wednesday represents a tough test for Arteta and Co as they host Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium.
The Reds knocked the Gunners out of the Carabao Cup earlier this year, as well as recording a 4-0 victory at Anfield in the corresponding league fixture back in November.
