Alan Shearer has delivered a brutally honest verdict on Manchester United's current plight.
It's been a desperately disappointing start to the Erik ten Hag era. Not only have United failed to pick up a point from their first two Premier League outings, the club's hierarchy have also failed to give Ten Hag the tools needed to achieve success.
United have spent the summer chasing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, with a deal in principle agreed back in June. However, the Dutchman remains a Barca player.

The club have also been in the market for a striker, with a whole host of names being linked with a move to Old Trafford. Alvaro Morata, Brian Brobbey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all been tipped to move to Manchester, but United's pursuit of Marko Arnautovic undoubtedly caused the most controversy.
Shearer had his say on the Arnautovic links on Match of the Day, and he believes there is someone within the club leaking information.
"I’m convinced that someone from Man United leaked the story linking them with Arnautovic, just to see what the reaction was. The reaction was that bad that they then had to pull out and I’m pretty convinced.
"I think that sort of sums up where United are - they’re in a mess and it’s going to take time, an unbelievable amount of money to get things right inside the football club and in terms of the right recruitment and it’s going to take a lot of patience from the Manchester United fans because of where they are now to where they want to be - miles away."
