Alan Rickman's diary reveals what he thought of Harry Potter co-stars and secret detail shared by JK Rowling

Alan Rickman was less than pleased with Emma Watson’s diction, according to excerpts from his diary.

Alan, who sadly passed away in 2016 from pancreatic cancer, documented his life and career in his diary over 25 years, and shared his insight into the Harry Potter franchise.

Running from 1993 to his death in 2016, the diaries provide personal insight into Rickman's public and private life.

The actor was forced to confront his health issues prior to working on the fifth instalment of the Harry Potter series.

The diary’s excerpts, which were published by the Guardian, reveal that the actor was actually similar to his well-known Harry Potter character, Professor Snape.

The actor was even more honest than Professor Snape’s harshest insults.

The highly anticipated book called, Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman, will be released to the public next month.

In the book, Alan recounts his several encounters off-set with the cast, while also giving his honest opinion on Harry Potter and his co-stars.

The sharp tongued actor revealed that he didn’t think Daniel Radcliffe was an actor, and his disliking for Emma Watson’s articulation as she played the role of Hermione Granger.

He described Emma’s diction as "this side of Albania at times."

While commenting on Radcliffe, he didn’t think he was an actor, but thought he might one day direct, or produce.

In one of the diary entries, the star reflected on the franchise, and when filming commenced on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Rickman frustratingly wrote: "These kids need directing. They don’t know their lines."

In a 2007 entry, Rickman openly talked about Professor Snape’s death, Alan wrote that author J.K. Rowling told him from the beginning that Snape shared a deep love for Harry’s mother, Lily.

He penned: "I have finished reading the last Harry Potter book. Snape dies heroically, Potter describes him to his children as one of the bravest men he ever knew and calls his son Albus Severus.

"This was a genuine rite of passage, one small piece of information from Jo Rowling seven years ago — Snape loved Lily — gave me a cliff edge to hang on to," he wrote.

Alan was sometimes known for his serious manner, but the star requested Uptown Funk to be played at his funeral when he passed away.

Alan’s wife, Rima Horton said: "He designed his own funeral. Ian Rickson (theatre director) was put in charge. Alan chose where it would take place, who would speak and what music would be played.”

Harry Potter stars have also been sharing memories of working on set with Alan on the iconic film.

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, had many scenes with legendary actor Alan Rickman, and recalls Alan uttering the words, “Don’t f***ing step on my cloak”, to him.

In a recent Instagram video, he revealed the incident led to Rickman getting upset with Felton while shooting a scene in Harry Potter.

Rickman was upset with Felton who regularly stepped on Rickman’s cloak, and it would nearly choke him.

Tom Felton said: Eventually I was told in no uncertain terms by Alan Rickman ‘Don’t step on my fucking cloak’ I sort of giggled. Death Eaters and I sort of looked at each other like ‘Is he joking?’ Quickly it became apparent he definitely wasn’t joking.”

He added: “The director was very keen and asked me to walk as close as I possibly can to Alan. We got about halfway down the great hall before [choking sound].”

“You have to bear in mind his cloak is attached around his neck. Nearly killed the poor man. He turned around and gave me a look like you never ever want to see.”

“Very luckily the next take someone else stepped on his cloak. So that kinda took the heat away from me. But I’ll never forget the words ‘Don’t step on my f***ing cloak”, he said.

Rickman's book hits shelves on October 18.
