Alan Carr to take time out of showbiz as he recovers from divorce

Alan Carr will be “taking a break” from showbiz following the breakdown of his marriage, saying that he needs to “sort himself out”. The presenter, 46, separated from his husband Paul Drayton in January after 13 years together. Paul and Alan tied the knot in 2018 after 10 years together as a couple - with singer, Adele, involved in the nuptials.

Speaking to Laura Boyd of What’s On Scotland, Alan said: “During Covid, the relationship fell apart, and I was divorced when we came out the other end.” He was talking ahead of what he described to be his “most personal” tour and described performing as being “like therapy”. Although 2022 has been an “amazing” year professionally for the Chatty Man, he said that personally it has been “a bit rubbish”.

Recently, Alan returned to host another series of Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow. On the Saturday, June 25 edition, he will be hosting a new version of classic game show, Bullseye. Alongside this, Alan’s Regional Trinket tour is currently underway, with dates across the country in June, July and September before he goes global with international events right into December.

Alan’s marriage ended at the beginning of 2022. You can read more about that here. In January, a spokesman for the former couple said: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating. They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.”

Following the split, Paul posted on Instagram that he was in rehab for alcoholism, after a "challenging couple of years" which saw him plead guilty last November to a drink-driving charge. He explained he had "proactively" checked himself into rehab at the beginning of the year to seek help for his ongoing battle with the illness.

Despite this, Alan told What’s On Scotland that he "might find love" when he's taking some time out next year. He said: “I might find a nice Scottish man. There was a man wading in the rivers [in Inverness] and I like a man in waders."

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow airs on ITV at 7pm on Saturday, June 25
