Alan Carr pokes fun at Madonna 'coming out' after she was accused of 'queer-baiting'

Alan Carr has taken a swipe at Madonna's viral TikTok video in which she appeared to suggest she is gay.

The comedian, 46, mimicked her playful clip by posting his own to the platform on Saturday. He tried to throw a pair of red underpants into a bathroom bin, but missed entirely.

Alan, who is openly gay, used toothpaste to imitate Madonna's bleached eyebrow look and waved his arm in the air when he missed, just as she did.

Alongside the video, he wrote: "If I miss I'm straight."

Fans found Alan's video hilarious, with one person commenting: "Not Alan coming for Madonna," with a series of laughing face emojis.

Another said: "The shadeeee," while a third fan added: "You've outdone yourself Alan."

Madonna had captioned her post: "If I miss, I'm gay!" as she attempted, and failed, to throw a pair of hot pink knickers into a bathroom bin. She missed by quite some distance.

It's unclear if the Material Girl hitmaker was actually making an announcement, or if she was simply joking.

While many users described her video as "historic" and congratulated the singer, others accused her of queer-baiting.

The term has been used to describe a celebrity marketing ploy where stars appear to hint that they identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community but don't act on it.

People took to Twitter after the video was uploaded to share their disappointment in the Queen of Pop.

One person wrote: "Madonna just came out as queer. I guess not being in the news for a few months did a number on her."

Another said: "Madonna queer baiting for relevance in 2022 is not something I expected," while a third added: "#Madonna queer bating is hardly news, she’s been doing it for 30 years, why are conversations happening about it??"

Madonna's fans quickly hit back, with one person writing: "I thought it was pretty clear that Madonna is queer. Growing up that's the impression I always got.."

Another fan tweeted: "She’s been such a strong ally to the gay community for decades. She did things that no other celebrity was doing. ESPECIALLY FOR HIV/AIDS AWARENESS."

Madonna famously locked lips with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during her performance at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Like A Prayer singer has been romantically linked with a number of male stars too, including Dennis Rodman and Vanilla Ice.

She was previously married to Sean Penn for four years in the eighties, before they split and she later tied the knot with Guy Ritchie. The pair were married between 2000 and 2008.
