Alan Burrows 'epitomises' Motherwell as boss pays tribute to outgoing chief executive

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell revealed he brought outgoing chief executive Alan Burrows into the dressing room at Kilmarnock to ensure he got the send-off he deserved.

Kettlewell knows Burrows is reluctant to accept praise – and he departed the press room while he was doing so – but says he deserves enormous credit for the many roles he fulfilled at Fir Park in his 15 years, nine of which were as chief executive.

Burrows starts in the same role at Aberdeen this week, and Kettlewell said farewell to ‘Mr Motherwell’.

Burrows was greeted by the players after the 1-1 draw and said in a social media post: “And that’s a wrap, folks.

“Thanks so much to all the lads and Stuart K / his staff for a fantastic send off.

“A new and exciting challenge is ahead... I’ll give it my best!”

Kettlewell said: “The guy epitomises Motherwell. The job he has done, the work he’s done in different roles, which is important to say as well – it’s not just been one particular role.

“I brought him in with the players at the very end, because if you’re trying to create a culture, he brings a massive part of that culture.

“It was really important to me, just being in the door, that the players showed their appreciation and an understanding for the work that the man has done.

“I can’t thank him enough for my short time at the football club, but we wish him all the best going on to his new adventure.”

Burrows took to social media today to say: "Let's get to work," over a photo of the south stand entry to Pittodrie.
