Alan Brazil says his special League Cup experience watching Rangers and Celtic came to mind during a historic Premier League encounter.
Liverpool smashed Manchester United 7-0 last weekend to spark a wave of talking points south of the border, but Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag playing down the impact of Anfield caught Brazil's attention. He was recently at Hampden for the fiery League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic, his former club winning 2-1 thanks to Kyogo Furuhashi's double.
Brazil lived it up in style by going private with fellow Hoops supporter Sir Rod Stewart, and both games hold a special place in his heart, with his VIP experience at Hampden something he cherishes. When asked what he made of Ten Hag's comments that Anfield is just like any other stadium before the game, Brazil told AceOdds : "Ridiculous. It's not. I played there. In fact, I never won there. I scored a goal with my right foot, which is a miracle on its own. We got a draw. Anfield is really tough.
"The atmosphere, especially a game like that. You've really got to roll your sleeves up, your first 20 minutes you know that you're going to be under pressure and you've got to fight for everything.
"It is a special place, I don't care what they say, European nights are magnificent. I'm a Celtic man, we have great nights in Europe as well.
"We had the Celtic Rangers Cup final last week. I flew up with Rod Stewart, that was a great experience, private jet with a few beers, we had a sing-song, it was magic.
"And that's a special game. But so is United against Liverpool either at Old Trafford or Anfield so I think Ten Hag was trying to play the game down, but as you say, it must have been music to the Liverpool players ears, saying 'Oh really? We'll see about that."
