Alan Brazil brands Jota a 'mercenary' over Celtic to Saudi transfer

Jota has been branded a "mercenary" over his decision to swap Celtic for Al-Ittihad.

Alan Brazil did not hold back as he gave his views on the 24-year-old's transfer to the Middle East.

The Portuguese star completed his £25million move from Celtic to Saudi on Monday. He will reportedly earn a staggering £10million a year in wages.

And while some pundits have defended the player for choosing to pocket as much money as possible in his career, talkSPORT host Brazil was having none of it.

He slammed the move as "horrible", and he also took aim at Steven Gerrard for joining the Saudi football revolution as a manager after becoming boss of Al Ettifaq.

Brazil said: "If I'm being frankly honest, for a player like him, it's mercenary. It's horrible what he's done.

"He's just taken the money. I don't like it. It doesn't matter (how much money he's on). You've got to test your ability and you ain't going to test it out there, let's be honest."

Some have suggested, at Jota's fairly early stage of his career, that he could come back to European football or even back to Celtic like Brendan Rodgers has done.

Brazil continued: "I don't care. The Rodgers thing is different. Jota is a mercenary. I don't know what Steven Gerrard's doing either."

It comes after Chris Sutton accused Jota of "wasting" his career by moving out to the Saudi Pro League.
