Alain Prost blasts Alpine for 'no respect' and accuses CEO of 'jealousy' as exit leaked

Alain Prost appears to have gone out swinging at Alpine, accusing the team of having "no respect" for him as details of his exit emerge.

The F1 legend joined the team in 2017 – then named Renault – as a special adviser and continued in that role up to the end of last season.

It was announced on Monday via the official F1 website that their relationship had come to an end, with the 66-year-old leaving his role.

This appears to have angered Prost, however, who has now claimed that they two parties had agreed to announce the news at the same time.

The Frenchman said he was "very disappointed" that agreement was not honoured, and also appeared to refute Alpine's claim that it was the team which had not offered a new deal.

"I am very disappointed how this news has been announced today," Prost posted on his Instagram page.

"It was agreed that we would announce together with Alpine! No respect sorry!

"I have refused the offer made to me in Abu Dhabi for the 2022 season because of a personal relationship and I was right!

"To the Enstone and Viry team, I will miss you."

Prost follows Marcin Budkowski out of the door as Alpine restructures its management team – the now former executive director's departure was announced last week.

Otmar Szafnauer, who also recently left his role as team principal at Aston Martin, has been heavily linked with a move to join the French constructor.

Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi appears to be trying to put his own stamp on things after completing his first year in the role in 2021.

But Prost has now accused the chief of "jealousy" and claiming he and others were cut out of the decision-making process.

"Rossi's desire is to be alone, not to be polluted by anyone," he told L'Equipe. "He told me he no longer needed advice. There is a real desire to put a lot of people on the sidelines."

Like the rest of the grid, Alpine are currently preparing for the start of racing action this year, with testing set to begin in Barcelona on February 23.

Before then, the teams will be presenting their 2022 cars to the public, with Alpine's official unveiling scheduled for February 10.
