Al-Qaeda leader and former Osama bin Laden aide Amin ul Haq arrested in Pakistan

Prominent Al-Qaeda member Amin ul Haq, who was once a right hand man to Osama bin Laden, has been arrested by Pakistan's counter-terrorism authority.

The department said in a statement on Friday that he had been arrested although no further information has been provided.

Ul Haq, born in 1960, was once a bodyguard to 9/11 coordinator bin Laden and has remained with the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda since the former leader’s death.

CBS reported in 2011 that he had been arrested in Lahore, Pakistan, but was released with no charges having been pressed.

A later report by India Today suggested he had returned to Afghanistan after his native province was taken over by the Taliban in 2021.

The arrest on Friday suggests that ul Haq had been visiting Pakistan.
