Al Horford is the Boston Celtics veteran voice. The 37-year-old big man is in his second spell with the franchise and has established himself as a locker-room leader throughout his tenure. As such, Horford has found himself taking on a mentorship role with Boston’s latest draft prospect.
When speaking to the media on October 2, Jordan Walsh revealed how he’s grown close with Horford since joining the team. The rookie noted how Horford has been helping him adjust to his new surroundings while also advising him on off-court matters, such as what suits to wear to specific events.
Buy Celtics Tickets“For sure, Al,” Walsh said. “I was talking to him before draft night. I was texting with him, talking about, ‘You know, I think I’m gonna be a Celtic I’m excited to come work out with you.’ To have a guy like him to give me advice… He’s still at the top of his game, so there is so much to learn from him…So it’s amazing. I’ve talked to him about other stuff. Of course, basketball, but also off-the-court stuff, like ‘What suit should I wear to this gala?’ Stuff like that. So he’s been a mentor for sure.”
Walsh has already impressed Celtics fans courtesy of his all-action displays during his outings at the Las Vegas Summer League. The Celtics have added multiple wing defenders this summer.

However, Walsh could find himself cracking the rotation at some point in the season, as his unique length and upside as a 3-and-d threat could make him an intriguing prospect for Joe Mazzulla.
With Horford operating as his mentor, Walsh is being given a first-class education in how to succeed at the NBA level. Celtics fans will hope their latest draft pick can flourish and become a cost-controlled asset to bolster their rotation moving forward.
