Lucknow: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday condemned the custodial death of a man in Lucknow and also slammed the Uttar Pradesh government, saying the government should now rename 'police custody' to 'torture house'.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticise the custodial death and wrote: "In the capital of Uttar Pradesh, two instances of custodial deaths (Should be read as murder ) have been reported in the past 16 days."
"The government, expert in renaming, should now rename 'police custody' to 'torture house'. Every demand of the victim's family should be fulfilled; we stand with them," Mr Yadav added.

नाम बदलने में माहिर सरकार को अब ‘पुलिस हिरासत’ का नाम बदलकर ‘अत्याचार गृह’ रख देना चाहिए।

Accused taken into custody on Friday
The man who allegedly died in the police custody has been identified as Mohit Pande. Mohit and his brother Shobharam were taken into custody on Friday following a dispute over a children's quarrel.

Locals stage protest
Following his death, locals staged a protest, seeking action against the police and others allegedly involved in the case. The family has accused the police of kiling him.
