Ajax fans forced to travel 'by boat and car' for Liverpool game as tickets collected from Goodison Park

Ajax supporters have faced travel difficulties ahead of tonight's Champions League game with Liverpool, with lengthy queues at the main international airport of the Netherlands causing significant delays.

For those who have managed to make the trip to Merseyside, alternative routes via via Ibiza, Mallorca, Milan and Oslo have been necessary in order to complete this journey.

Ajax sold all of their 2600 tickets available for this evening's match at Anfield, though Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf have explained some fans have been left with no choice other than to return home despite 'making every effort' to board their flights.

Addressing the issues supporters have faced at Schiphol Airport, the director of the official Ajax supporters' association said: "I know the stories of fans who have missed their flight and are now doing everything they can to get here. They have got into a car, take the boat or fly through the strangest detours. Away against Liverpool, everyone wants to be there. Especially because we were not welcome here two years ago because of corona.” Captain of the reigning Eredivisie champions, Dusan Tadic added: "Schiphol must solve this, we want our fans here with us."

Fans who have managed to negotiate their airport troubles today travelled to Goodison Park to collect their match tickets, with approximately 1200 individuals said to have visited the home of the Blues.

Liverpool will be hoping to collect their first three points of their Champions League campaign, though face an in-form Ajax side who have adapted well to life under new head coach Alfred Schreuder.
