Ajax fans celebrate win against Rangers with fireworks and flares in Glasgow city centre

Ajax fans celebrated in city centre of Glasgow last night by setting off flares and fireworks after their win over Rangers.

Thousands of supporters could be seen descending onto the streets prior to the 8pm clash, bearing drums and pyrotechnics. Footage shared on social media shows a heavy policing response at the events as fans made their way to Ibrox Stadium.

Supporters of the Dutch club poured back onto the streets after Rangers were left with an unwanted Champions League group stage record following the 3-1 defeat. The match saw Steven Berghuis put the Dutch visitors head at the start of the game before Mohammed Kudus added a second in the 29th minute.

Videos taken from the celebrations show George Square illuminated by thick, coloured smoke while thousands of the away fans are heard chanting football songs. The party included fireworks and a brass band.

Police Scotland confirmed that no arrests were made during the match or at the celebrations.

A spokesperson said: "There were no arrests yesterday evening in relation to the Rangers v Ajax football match. A proportionate policing plan was put in place to ensure public safety and the match passed off without incident."
