Ajax boss outlines Antony plans after Man Utd transfer target's agent flies to England

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder has claimed that he “really thinks” Antony will stay with the Dutch club despite growing links with Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been rumoured to be considering a move for the Brazilian winger this summer since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman even made a personal appeal to the club’s hierarchy regarding a swoop for Antony’s services amid Cristiano Ronaldo ’s request to leave Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be able to secure his services but a move certainly looks in the offing with the winger’s agent having flown into Manchester for official talks regarding personal terms. In the meantime, his current employers Ajax already appear to have secured his potential replacement with a move for FC Porto’s Francisco Conceicao.

Despite that, Schreuder insists that the club are planning on keeping hold of Antony having already sold a few key players this summer.

Talking with ESPN, he said: "I really think he [Antony] will stay. Of course, we have sold a lot of players now. That has not happened in recent years. We have also bought players. But we have sold so many players that I assume nobody will leave."

Asked if there is a deadline in place to allow players to leave, he said: "No, we did not discuss that. But we do talk to each other daily.

"I assume that no one is leaving. If we sell one more key player, it wouldn't be good for us."

Ajax are set to go into the new season with a number of their reigning Eredivisie champions having already waved goodbye. Man Utd have secured the signing of Lisandro Martinez, whilst striker Sebastien Haller has moved to Borussia Dortmund.

The exits do not end there though. Ryan Gravenberch and Noussai Mazraoui have both moved to Bayern Munich, with goalkeeper Andre Onana also seeking pastures new with a switch to Inter Milan.

The Dutch side have attempted to counteract those sales having themselves been very busy in the market. They spent big money on Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn whilst Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has arrived for a big fee.

Owen Wijndal has swapped AZ Alkmaar for Ajax, whilst former Man Utd target Brian Brobbey has returned to Amsterdam from RB Leipzig following a successful loan spell with the club.
