Airline passengers' fury as airport chaos sees them fly abroad 'without luggage loaded'

British Airways customers have been left furious after flights reportedly took off last night without any luggage loaded on them.

Hundreds of passengers flying to and from London Heathrow are said to have experienced issues such as delays and being parted from their baggage.

Those affected took to social media to voice their frustrations, with one person saying they waited at the baggage reclaim area for an hour and a half before being told their belongings hadn't arrived.

The issue was reported on flights to destinations such as Toronto, Singapore, Johannesburg, Atlanta, Belfast and Bologna.

One customer tweeted a photo of crowds waiting for their luggage at Heathrow, writing: "BA995 from BER Berlin to LHR Heathrow. Baggage delayed for 90 minutes. No problem.

"Waited. 90 minutes later - sorry we don’t know where the bags are. Loads of baggage delays today. Filled in the forms. No clothes. Shopping tomorrow then."

Another person asked the airline: "I was on flight BA0099 to YYZ yesterday where no bags were loaded at LHR - what is the plan for reuniting us all with our luggage??"

BA responded: "Sorry to hear your baggage was delayed. The team at the airport will get that to you as quickly as possible.

"Once the baggage has arrived in Toronto and passes customs it will be given to a courier for delivery to you and they'll contact you with details."

A third wrote: "Can someone at BA explain to me how my flight BA55 landed in Johannesburg this morning with zero luggage aboard? How does a plane leave with any luggage? What happens next???"

The airline provided a baggage tracking link in response, adding: "I'm very sorry to hear this. Our Baggage teams are working hard to reunite our customers with their luggage as soon as possible."

A fourth added: "Flight BA011 today LHR to Singapore with NO luggage on it! When can we expect it to arrive please?"

And a fifth said: "Was on BA227 to Atlanta yesterday. 180 plus bags gone missing inc mine, late leaving, late arriving. Not a peep out of British Airways today. Grr".

BA customer Sophia Ashe, who was travelling to Bologna yesterday, said her flight was delayed by over an hour and took off without luggage on board.

She told MailOnline: "This is not the first bad experience I've had with BA. I will never fly with them again."

Another passenger, Dave Brett, said he has had to buy new clothes because the status of his bag is still "missing".

He added: "I wasn't the only one waiting for my bag, other British Airway flights arriving at Terminal 5 also had massive bag delays of up to and over 90 minutes."

The airline has apologised, blaming the delays on French Air Traffic Control strikes and adverse weather conditions.

BA said in a statement: "As a result of French Air Traffic Control industrial action and the continued adverse winter weather conditions around the UK and Europe, some of our customers' baggage was delayed last night.

"We're really sorry for the inconvenience caused and our teams are working hard to get their luggage to them as quickly as possible."
