Travellers from the UK can now fly to an alternative New York airport for just £159 with the pledge to reduce waiting times at US border control.
Iceland’s newest low-cost airline, PLAY, has announced its newest route between London and New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), alongside flights to Boston and Baltimore/Washington.
The first service will depart on June 10 and tickets are now on sale at www.flyplay.com, with flights via Iceland’s Reykjavik, from as little as £159 one way (standard fare).
Transatlantic flights to New York will depart from London four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), with a one hour and 35 minutes layover in Reykjavik.
To celebrate the launch of its New York service, PLAY is offering a special introductory rate until midnight on February 7 of £139 on flights departing from London Stansted.
Birgir Jónsson, PLAY CEO, said: “New York is a critical location for both European tourists looking to explore Manhattan, and American travellers heading to the 22 destinations we fly to including Iceland, Paris, Dublin, and more.
"The low fares and flexibility that passengers experience at Stewart International Airport are exactly what passengers seek when they book their travel with PLAY.
"We anticipate strong bookings in 2022, and with New York as our third U.S. destination, PLAY passengers will have more choices when booking last-minute trips, work-cations, and spontaneous adventures.”
Stewart airport is further away from Manhattan than JFK and Newark, but there is less waiting time at airport customs, compared to lengthier queues.
Landing fees at Stewart airport are 80 per cent cheaper compared to other airports in New York. In additional, with less air traffic at the airport, PLAY´s aircraft will spend less time taxiing on the ground and holding, which saves fuel, expenses and emission.
Since launching late last spring, PLAY has flown more than 100,000 passengers with a 96 per cent on-time arrival rate to date.
