Airline passengers willing to take the dreaded middle seat could find themselves bagging prizes worth tens of thousands of pounds.
While most Brits have a seat preference when they prepare to jet off on holidays, it's fair to guess that the majority are opting for the window or aisle position.
One offers easy access to the aisle and a little extra room, the other soaring views of the world outside, the Daily Star reports.
Few people want to be assigned the middle seat when flying.
Not only are you stuck between two other passengers - meaning double the potential for a difficult armrest encounter - escape is difficult and looking out the window harder.
Now, however, Virgin Australia is making it worth your while if you’re willing to take the least-favoured seat, as you could bag some big prizes in their new lottery.
That applies for those who end up their either by choice or because it’s been assigned to them
A new winner will be selected each week, with a whopping $230,000 (£127,800) worth of prizes on offer.
Those lucky - or unlucky - enough to be put in the middle seat could win the likes of a Caribbean cruise with Virgin Voyages, flights and tickets to AFL away games for 2023 and other once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The airline is hoping to make the middle seat more attractive to holidaymakers, and in doing so ease demand for the other two positions.
Research from the airline found that a sizeable 63% of people surveyed recently said they preferred the aisle seat while 35% liked the window.
Only 3% said they didn’t mind where they sat.
To be with a chance of winning a prize you'll need to fly in a middle seat on a Virgin Australia domestic flight by April 23 2023.
Hopeful passengers will then need to download the Virgin app and tap the Middle Seat Lottery square to enter the competition.
To enter the lottery you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member and over 18, and you must opt within 48 hours of your departure time.
