When it comes to long holiday weekends, Americans truly savor the chance to enjoy their time off and spend it with family and friends.
But those needing to hop on a plane for the 4th of July weekend are facing some obstacles. This started on June 27, when a wave of flight cancellations were issued due to thunderstorms in the Northeast, including New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Many of the airlines have recovered since then -- but one clearly has not. That's United, (UAL) which canceled 26% of its flights yesterday and is up to 11% today, or 326 flights, as of 9:30 am EDT, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
Travelers took to social media to report some of the issues United is having, with one saying she was told her flight had no pilot and alleging that the airline refused to refund her ticket.
Others took video of the long lines of people waiting to be rebooked or get a voucher for their canceled flights, tagging their posts #neveragainUNITED.
Another said he had stood in line for seven hours.
Another passenger also mentioned problems during their United flight, saying it ran out of both food and trash bags.
United Airlines Chief Executive Scott Kirby sent out a memo to United employees on June 28 that blames the Federal Aviation Agency for the cancellations,
"I'm … frustrated that the FAA frankly failed us this weekend," Kirby wrote. "As you know, the weather we saw in [Newark Airport] is something that the FAA has historically been able to manage without a severe impact on our operation and customers."
